"Alex, you can’t just decide to be gay."

I can, and I have, quite frequently recently. As if someone’s sexuality can be directed—well, I’m trying to change mine.

So I’ve been doubting going on a date with the opposite sex and declared 2022 my gay year. Say what?! It was supposed to be something funny to say, but was it just that?! Surprisingly, things didn’t go as planned, and I ended up dating men for another year. Regretfully so.

Recently, I've been spotted with a dating account declaring my bi-curious status. Genuinely, I'm curious about what I don’t know. Not so genuinely, I’m searching for enough reasons to become gay.

So far, I've received compliments from my gay friends, or an A for Effort, for sounding gay and managing to revamp my wardrobe to look the part. Yes, I’ve done that.

And here’s the kicker—I’m not alone. My gorgeous single friends, the women, are on the same trajectory. It’s starting to feel like a silent movement.

Is reconciliation between the sexes possible? What does the future hold?
